Happy Groundhogs Day from Columbus Ohio
Yes it's that time again. February 2, 2009 Happy Groundhog Day.
Buckeye Chuck in Marion Ohio should be up soon to let US know whether we get six more weeks of winter or an early spring in Central Ohio.
Ohio History Central (part of the Ohio Historical Society) says of Buckeye Chuck
"From late September until early April, Buckeye Chuck spends his time hibernating. On February 2, against his will, Chuck emerges from his sleep to predict the weather. In 1979, the Ohio legislature made Buckeye Chuck Ohio's official groundhog."
While the most well known groundhog is Punxsatawny Phil in PA; groundhogs are local. Who is the ground hog for your part of the country? What did your groundhog predict for 2009?

Maureen, What happens if the critter forgets to set his alarm and decides to sleep in? 6 more weeks of winter? H-m-m-m-m...

Yesterday I got a comment on a 2007 post from Buckeye Chuck's owner and she left her email. She and I exchanged a few emails yesterday, sounds like she's got it under control.
I was trying to get her to Twitter it.
The sad news just in.... Buckeye Chuck, Ohio's officical groundhog saw his shadow... more winter.
Hi Maureen... well, that's good enough for me, if Chuck and Phil are in agreement then we must be getting more winter!
that's easy to accept when you are in Dallas,
I believe Chuck forecasted early spring the last two years innacurately.
