Worthington Schools got an A+ for the 2011 - 2012 school year!
The Worthington City School District got an Excellent with Dinstinction grade for the 2011 to 2012 school year.
On October 17, 2012 the grades for the 2011-2012 school year were reported to the public by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE.) Usually Ohio school's grades come out in August, just as the new school year is starting. This year grades for schools throughout the state were delayed by an investigation into alleged tampering with attendance data by some school districts.
I saw the 2011 - 2012 information first on the online Columbus Business First newspaper yesterday. The Columbus Dispatch has an “Online Database” and they say “SOURCE: Ohio Department of Education.” Looking at the ODE site I still see the 2010 -2011 report cards. Worthington received a grade of Excellent for the 2010 -2011 school year, an A?
The grades available to Ohio schools from the Ohio Department of Education are:
- Excellent with Distinction
- Continuous Improvement
- Academic Watch
- Academic Emergency
Is "Worthington Schools got an A+" an accurate way to describe the rating from the Ohio Department of Education? To use grades* that most of us are more familiar with:
- A+ = Excellent with Distinction
- A = Excellent
- B = Effective
- C = Continuous Improvement
- D = Academic Watch
- F = Academic Emergency
The Columbus Dispatch headline today is "Columbus clings to it's "C." A local television newsperson referred to the "Excellent with Distinction" rating as A+.
On the Ohio Departement of Education site there is a page called “Spreadsheets containing preliminary results” I downloaded the 1.8 MB of data but I looked at the data on the Columbus Dispatch site. I am not a subcriber. I was surprised to see as much as I did online on the Columbus Dispatch today. The ODE site says “ODE will not publish PDFs of the Local Report Cards until the investigation by the Auditor of State is concluded.”
Worthington schools overall got an A+
The Worthington City School District on the whole received the "Excellent with Distinction " rating from the Ohio Department of Education but individual school buildings within the Worthington schools and other Ohio District also received grades. Each school is graded by the state. All grades for the 2011 to 2012 school year in the state of Ohio are subject to revision.
Congratulations to Worthington schools on their A+
