The Shops at Worthington Place had their Ground Breaking Ceremony today. I went. I sweated. I listened. They announced new tenants! Coming soon to The Shops at Worthington Place:
- Panera Bread
- Johnson's Ice Cream
- Swan Cleaners
Swan Cleaners was the first tenant when the Worthington shopping center was built in the 1970s?

Tom Carter is the one without a hardhat. He has one in earlier photos... he was putting one on in the series of action photos I took of the shoveling Ground Breaking ceremony at Shops at Worthington Place.
The area between the Kroger store and the shops is going to be green space? A park like place that people will want to be!
New and existing tenants at The Shops at Worthington Place
They talked about another tenant that they had wanted to announce, so soon there should be someone else coming soon to the mall on W. Willson Bridge Road that is being revamped, and renamed to the Shops at Worthington Place. Tom Carter talked about the tenants they have that are doing well including Talbots. They are remodeling the Talbot's store in the mall previously known as "Worthington Square" and "the Worthington Mall." I think those were the names.
I went into Talbot's store... and the sales associates told me they are actually moving to the south, where Talbot's for Men was.
After the Ground Breaking ceremony I saw this sign inside the mall.
"dish the dirt about our exciting new plans!" The website for The Shops at Worthington Place is ShopWorthingtonPlace.com
They (The Shops at Worthington Place) are on Facebook and Twitter and asked the crowd to follow them on social media too.

Maureen, This is good news for people who live in Worthington. They must be glad to hear that they will have Panera Bread at Worthington Place.
There are lots of Panera's in Central Ohio. Of course it will be nice for Worthington to have one at the mall. Panera is a place people go to hang....
The mall has only 30% occupancy so a major remodel and reinvention is welcome. I was expecting an ice cream place but did not think of Johnson's Real Ice Cream.
Ditto Gitas' comments. have loved and patronized Panera Bread for years. Great food and great place to meet clients. Hope the expansion brings new business to all!
Delayed reaction, missed your comment.
It's not an expansion of the mall. There is plenty of empty space for the developers to fill in. The mall has had lots of vacant store fronts for years. 30% occupancy recently. The ground breaking was for remodeling, reworking, updating the mall into a great place. There will be outside spaces including this area where a store was removed a few years ago by a previous owner of the mall. The plan then was to do a drive through for the Kroger Pharmacy in the grocery store next door.
There are plenty of Panera Bread stores in Central Ohio. It will be nice place for those who frequent this shopping center to have one right here, of course. Nothing against Panera, but I am more excited about a local ice cream place coming to Worthington than a chain you can a duplicate of five miles north, four miles south... over on Sawmill... (I just made up the miles away), but Worthington is surrounded by Paneras.
Thanks for the comment.
