Worthington Ohio Small Business Saturday - November 17, 2010

From the Small Business Saturday Facebook Page:
"A day to come together in support of the small businesses we love.
The businesses that are the heartbeat of our communities and local economies.
That day is November 27, 2010—the first-ever Small Business SaturdaySM. "
Many but not all of the small businesses in Worthington are in Old Worthington... or Olde Worthington. Who do you want to support on Saturday? This is an exciting time for the Wilson Bridge Corridor and the Worthington Square Mall.

Breakfast at First Watch... or is First Watch not a small business because it is a chain? I assume the First Watch is a franchise....
Or breakfast at Scottie's Coffee & Tea House (it will always be Scottie MacBean to me)
Christmas Shoppingat : Fritzi Jacobs? House Wine? Candle Lab? Zettler Hardware?
Lunch at J. Liu?
More shopping now up in Worthington Square in the Wilson Bridge Corridor : Monkworks? Talbotts? The Pendleton Store?* Are those not small businesses because they are chains?
New at Worthington Square "Worthington Craft Guild Holiday Shoppe. " Santa arrives Friday.
Wait what time is the Buckeye game and where is a great place Worthington Small Business to watch it in Worthington? PK O'Rhyan's? The Old Bag of Nails (chain? small business?) Or buy a Block O chocolate at emlolly candy and eat it in the privacy of your own home in front of your TV?
Dinner at the Worthington Inn?

Maureen - I always appreciate the promotion of local businesses and the impact they have on the local economy! Thanks for illustrating the difference between local small business and local businesses that send profits out of the community.
I was not trying to do that really Jack. Maybe whomever started Small Business Saturday is though.
Or maybe I am trying to sort it out for myself. I can tell a WallMart when I see one.
I think they all employ local people. I eat at chains, shop at chains. Worthington has some vacancies in the mall and on High St. Some real recent. In the second photo the furthest left store front with a big sign in the window was a stationery store since the early 90s and it is now gone. They joined forces with a business in Westerville and moved there, so I am thankful they are still in business.
I am from retailing. I think it is all good. Or almost all.... I think a town needs a mix.
