Worthington Football Friday Night - 1941

Another photo of Worthington from an earlier era from Don O'Brien who grew up in Worthington.
O'Brien's Flickr photostream has lots of pictures of Worthington from the 1930s and 1940s. Link to his Flickr photostream in the photo credit at the bottom.
I don't really know that it was a Friday night game. The "Football Friday Night, Football Friday Night" thing just popped into my head looking at the photo. Channel 4?
Worthington Football Friday Night - VIPs at a football game
Who were the Worthington VIPs at the Football game? According to O'Brien's notes on Flickr left to right
"Mr. Phinney, the high school custodian"
and
"Jim Talliday, police chief (actually, the whole police department)"
and
"Ray Heischman, teacher and basketball coach"
According to Dok1 (Don O'Brien on Flickr) this was two months before Pearl Harbor and he was a high school senior.
His photos are so clear.
Today ... it looks like Thomas Worthington is "home" tonight playing New Albany and Worthington Kilbourne is "home" playing Hilliard Davidson.

It could be a football game...and you can smell the hot dogs cooking and here it is nearly hot chocolate season as well....go team go !
Maureen, I love fall football games, crips air, sport team blankets, team hats, steamy breath, cheering and an all American past time.
What a fabulous post. I haven't jumped on Flickr yet, sounds like a great site. Loved the commentary you have regarding the gentlemen in the picture.
we are going to have a wet football Friday night here.
Someone had a really nice camera for 1941, but I do love the old pictures, they sometimes tell a story in themselves. But other times they remind us of times past. Maybe we should return to those times, they seemed so much more innocent.

He was so into photography, he tells which camera he used so he had more than one. I love black and white photography and history. He also talks about different kinds of film... it was a different time. There is a picture of him in a dark room.
I just don't think we can "return to those times" Todd.
Don O'Brien's Flickr stream is so interesting in so many ways, he has Worthington photos but his family traveled so he documents those trips. He went on a photo train trip, that started from the south end of Columbus and went to somewhere in New York. He was 17 or 18 when Pearl Harbor was attacked but I can't tell from his photos whether he was in WWII.
WWII is not necessarily a time I would want to return to... but I love looking at his photos of the era from today.
