Mid-Century Style

Worthington home Mid Century corner windowsThere are great websites and magazines about  "Mid-Century Modern", the "Mid-Century Marvels", the "Atomic Ranch", etc.

Another site I recently found Mid-Century Style says this:

"Welcome to Mid-Century Style, where we celebrate the architecture of the 1950's. Not just the modern, but also just the regular middle class blond brick ranches and frame residential homes."

Look at this bathroom - Mid-Century Style Blog - Updates! Check Out This Bathroom an earlier post about these Denver Colorado fixtures looking for a home says:

“We bought a 1958 turquoise bathtub/sink/toilet a while back to remodel our own bathroom, since then things have changed and we’ll be moving out so we need to get rid of the blue bathroom."

That's no ordinary blue that's  1950's turquise!

Mid 20th century homes, the kind of ordinary homes you find all over Central Ohio including Worthington neighborhoods like Colonial Hills, Davis Estate and Wilson Hill.

You can follow Mid-Century Style via Facebook (I'm a fan) and they have a page on Ning.com too...

Worthington Colonial Hills Neighborhood (some of Colonial Hills was built in the 1950's.)

Maureen, Yes those were the "hip and swank days of architecture". I had an atomic ranch listed last year complete with a bomb shelter and a Frank Sinatra lounge. It Had a lot of looker, less buyers as the grandson finally bought it.

I never realized that those 50's ranchers actually had a name for the style of the era.  All of those olive green kitchen appliances too.

We sold a house that had been on the market for 5 years...foil flocked wallpaper greeted you in the foyer...one bathroom was lime green, one turquoise and one pink....and I DO mean the fixtures...the new buyers are changing them out one at a time and had to mud over the flocking that refused to fly off the wall.

I think avocado appliances and flocked wallpaper came later.

Hello Maureen, Using the term Mid-Century sounds so heady to me compared to, 'the stuff I had growing up.' Love your blog!

When I first got in real esate in the 80's in the South Dayton suburbs I remember thinking the 50's was ugly... dated, ugly....  I don't know whether I am getting old and nolstalgic but I can appreciate it lots more now.

I hated the big old brick ranches which are all over there.

Dayton you can see so much how that market grew in the 50s, same is true here to a lesser degree.  Thanks for stopping by Cynthia.
