Worthington schools restructuring

Perry Middle School on Google gives McCords addressWorthington schools restructuring only affects middle school students and then not even most middle school students.  Just the kids who would now attend one of the four (or five if you count Phoenix) middle schools in the Worthington City School District.

McCord Middle School -  Map - 1500 Hard Road, Columbus, OH 43235

Perry Middle School - Map - 2341 Snouffer Road Worthington, OH 43085

The Perry Middle School building on Snouffer Road will still house Phoenix Middle School.

Google Maps seems ahead of the game.  Google Maps gave me  1500 Hard Road as the address for Perry Middle School.    The snippet of a Google Map here shows Google identifying Perry's address as 1500 Hard Road, Columbus Ohio 43235 rather than the Snouffer Road address.  Google is identifying the 2341 Snouffer Road as Phoenix Middle School.  Currently both Phoenix and Perry Middle Schools are housed in the building at 2341 Snouffer Road which says "Perry" on the front of the building.

The maps of the current Worthington middle school attendence areas and elementary school attendences area  from the Worthington City School site:

Worthington City Schools Middle School Attendance Map - .pdf

Worthington City Schools Elementary School Attendance Map  - .pdf

If I understand this correctly the elementary feeder schools that will be affected are Brookside Estates Elementary,  Bluffsview Elementary and Granby Elementary.  Worthington area neighborhoods that are affected include: Bluffsview,  Brookside Estates, Brookside Woods (the part that is in Worthington schools of course, not the part in Dublin), Brookside Village,  The Lakes at Worthington, Oldstone Crossing, Smoky Row Manor, The Bluffs, Worthington Green, Worthingview and others.

Perhaps there is concern that McCord will be overcrowded though too, but the FAQ on the Worthington City School site tells projected class size.

Worthington schools restructuring

The NBC4i.com coverage includes a video   Middle School Restructuring A Hot Topic Among Worthington Parents  and says " Worthington Restructuring - Worthington City Schools is consolidating its middle schools due to declining enrollment."

The  Worthington middle schools not affected by the restructuring are Worthingway and Kilbourne.

Worthington Estates Elementary School

Worthington Estates Elementary School Sign The Worthington Estate Elementary School earned an 'Excellent' rating in the 2008 - 2009 school year from the Ohio Department of Education.

Worthington Estates Elementary School - 2008 - 2009 school year report card.  Congratulations.

Worthington Estates Elementary School is located at 6760 Rieber St. Worthington, Ohio 43085 in the City of Worthington.

The Worthington City School District as a whole earned an 'Excellent With Distinction'  rating from the Ohio Department of Education, each school building receives a grade from the state.  I believe looking at the site all the schools in the Worthington City School District were the top three of the total six ranging from "Excellent With Distinction" to "Effective" with the "Excellent" rating received by Worthington Estates Elementary School sandwiched between.

Worthington Estates Elementary - attendance area neighborhoods

Of course the Worthington Estates neighborhood children attend school at Worthington Estates Elementary.  Other residential neighborhoods include Olentangy Hills in the City of Worthington.  Some of the Worthington Woods area north of 270 in the City of Columbus attends Worthington Estates Elementary School.  The Sanctuary and other City of Columbus neighborhoods in the Worthington School District which currently are in the Worthington Estates Elementary attendance areas.  Redistricting within the school district can and will happen with changes in population.

The school district boundaries in Central Ohio were in place prior to the annexation and development of a lot of ground by the City of Columbus.  The Worthington School District is I believe approximately 20 square miles while the city of Worthington is considerably smaller.

The Worthington Estates Elementary attendence area as well as all the other Worthington schools are mapped on the district site.  There is also a street by street guide which should list every street within the Worthington City School District and the elementary, middle and high school that the children on the street attend.

The Worthington City School District went back to school this week for the 2009 - 2010 year.

Worthington School News

Worthington Evening Street School sign Worthington School News this morning in the Columbus Dispatch

I heard it on the local TV news so Googled for the story...  The City of Worthington paid for crossing guards inside the city of Worthington at elementary schools but that expense is being shifted to the Worthington School Disctrict. In the article  written by Ann Fisher of the Columbus Dispatch:

Worthington schools taxpayers will now pay crossing guards

"Previously, Worthington schools had chipped in about $7,500 for the in-city guards and also paid $33,000 for three other guards for elementary schools - Bluffsview, Liberty and Slate Hill - that are outside the city."

The article says the cities of Hilliard and Grandview Heights pay for crossing guards within their cities too, rather than the school district.

The city of Worthington will continue to employ and train the crossing guards.  The City of Worthington employed a guard at St. Michael's School too, that school or the Catholic Diocese will have to pick up the cost of a crossing guard at High Street at the intersection with W.  Selby St. Boulevard

The Columbus Dispatch article about this Worthington School News highlights some changes at Colonial Hills and Evening Street Elementary Schools.

The Worthington City School District will have a bond levy on the November ballot.

How's the Neighborhood? How good are the schools?
