Worthington Celebration: New School in Our Old Location

Today Tobie Simonds the owner of the NEW Primrose School in Worthington at 6902 N. High St. Worthington Ohio 43085 stopped by our NEW office in Old Worthington.  The owner of the NEW school in Worthington stopped by the new Real Living HER Worthington office to invite us to their Grand Opening Celebration for the school, a week from Saturday.

Primrose School in Worthington did not  move into our old building... our old building was razed. Primrose School built a beautiful new building on the lot where Real Living HER sat for decades, just south of Highland Avenue.   I'd show you photos here but our building was NOT real pretty.  We loved it but it was not real pretty.

The Primrose School in Worthington's Grand Opening Celebration is Saturday January, 14 2012  from 10:00 to 2:00.

Primrose Schools is the "Leader in Educational Child Care" they say so on the Grand Opening Celebration for the New Worthington school. The invitation for the Grand Opening Celebration promises "face painting, Arnett Howard, crafts, games, refreshments"  and a "special drawing."

For more information about educational child care, the school or the Grand Opening Celebration contact Primrose School Worthington at 614-888-5800.

Worthington: Last Farmer's Market of the Season

Tomorrow is the last farmers market of the summer season in Worthington.

Worthington Farmers Market Worthington Inn - October 2011

No pretty leaves on the trees in this photo from the October 22, 2011 Worthington Farmers Market but look at the pretty October sky?  Let's have sunshine and blue skies tomorrow please for the last farmer's market of the summer seaon in Worthington, Ohio.

The "Olde Worthington Summer Farmers Market" a page on the Olde Worthington Business Association's website says:

"The Olde Worthington summer farmers market was established in 1987 and is one of the largest and most respected markets in Ohio.  Over 70 vendors participate in the market which is held in downtown Worthington on Saturday mornings from 9-noon."

There is another page on the Olde Worthington Business Association's website for the Olde Worthington Winter Farmers Market, but it looks to me like that is not update for the 2011-2012 winter farmers market season yet. Last year there was one Olde Worthington Winter Farmers Market in November and another in December.  After the first of the year it looks like the Olde Worthington Winter Farmers Market at the Griswold Center was every Saturday.  Cabin fever time, January, February, March....  for information about either the summer or winter market they are on Twitter and Facebook in addition to their website.   Michele Burke Mooney is the market manager.

Osage Oranges: Worthington Farmer's Market

"Osage Oranges" at the Worthington Farmer's Market

Osage Orange for sale at the Olde Worthington Farmer's Market

Do you know about using Osage Orange to deter spiders? Osage Orange or Osage-orange?  I showed a house in Lewis Center about four years ago and there were Osage Oranges in the basement.  The buyer told me what they were... why they were there.

Maclura pomifera Wikipedia cites something that says the spider thing is not true...

Last year I was showing a house on acreage on N. Liberty Road and the buyer told me the trees along the driveway were Osage Orange trees(?)  Osage Oranges are also called Hedge Apples.  The tree was used as a border to farm fields, a living fence.

Next week is the last farmer's market in Worthington.  Last week  of the Olde Worthington Farmer's Summer Market.   I hope she is there.  I want an Osage Orange for the garage and one for the basement...  I don't like spiders.  I am willing to gamble $1.00.

Worthington Farmers Market October 2011

This Worthington Farmer's market photo was Saturday October  8, 2011.  The night before:Worthington First Friday - October 2011.

The "Farmer's Market" season is almost over for another year.  The summer Worthington Farmers Market  runs from May through October.  The last Farmer's Market is October 29, 2011.    The Winter Farmers Market moves into the Griswold Center in November.  Information currently on the Olde Worthington Business Association website reflects schedules for the 2010 - 2011 Winter Farmers Market, it was not every Saturday until the first of the year. It looks like one Saturday in November, one Saturday in December.

Will the 2011 - 2012 Winter Farmers Market hours be the same?  You will have to check on their site.

Happy Easter - 2011

Happy Easter Worthington

Blue skies and the Worthington Green...  Happy Easter 2011!

The photo is NOT from this year... the photo is looking at the Worthington Presbyterian Church across the Village Green in 2009...  Easter was in early April 2009... the trees are more leafed out this year since Easter was so late but there are no beautiful blue skies today, or Saturday, or Friday.   I can't remember before that if we were having rain... I think it has been raining all week.

Worthington Presbyterian Church Good Friday 2011

I went to the Worthington Good Friday Community Service on the Village Green on Friday but it was moved inside this year because of rain earlier in the day on Friday... this inside picture is 2011.  I had walked in once last year or the year before to see what the inside of the Worthington Presbyterian Church looked but I had never been in the sanctuary except to take a peak that one time.

I have gone to the Good Friday Community Service in the city of Worthington a number of years.  Some years it has rained.  The Good Friday service is a number of Worthington area  churches: Worthington Presbyterian, St. John's Episcopal Church, All Saints Lutheran Church, Gethsemene Lutheran Church, St. Michael's Catholic Church, The Salvation Army, The Seventh Day Adventist Church.  I hope I did not miss any.

The quote in the shape of a cross on the sign on the Worthington Green Good Friday ServiceWorthington Green is from George MacLeod (I had to Google him):

"I simply argue that the cross be raised again at the centre of the marketplace as well as on the steeple of the church."

Columbus churches (2009 also)

Happy Easter 2011!   Happy Spring 2011!

Worthington Memorial Day Parade 2010

The 2010 Worthington Memorial Day Parade started at 10:00 AM in the rain... unless it was not raining on Dublin Granville Rd. (161) when the parade kicked off... it was raining when we we drove by a few blocks east of where the parade forms. It was raining when we walked a few block north from Lincoln Avenue where we parked. It was raining when the parade hit the block we were watching in... north of St. Michael Church but south of South Street... It was raining when the parade got there but it let up some soon after... you see less umbrellas on the sidewalks.

I think the 2010 Worthington Memorial Day Parade moved a little faster than most years... and may have been shorter. No motor cycles, no clowns in little cars... no scooters... just a few bikes... most of the convertibles had their hoods up... but it was as fun to watch as usual...

There is a picture of the float in the Slideshow link below.  There is also a picture of a lady dressed up as 150 years ago...The lady with the  long white dress and the parasol? Would that be how ladies in Worthington Ohio c. 1849 would dress?
