Worthington's Walnut Grove Cemetery is 150 years old.  There is a celebration at the historic cemetery on Sunday June 7, 2009 from 1:00 to 3:00.

The cemetery is 5561 Milton Avenue in Worthington, Ohio.  Just north of the southern border of Worthington and the city of Columbus. Cemetery Road will take you to Milton Avenue or you can get to it from W. Lincoln Rd.The Walnut Grove Cemetary is adjacent to the Davis Estate neighborhood on the south end of Worthington.  Antrim Park is on the west side of Walnut Grove Cemetery.Worthingtons Walnut Grove Cemetery

The Walnut Grove Cemetery had a float in the Worthington Memorial Day Parade this year. There is a picture of the float in the Slideshow link below.  There is also a picture of a lady dressed up as 150 years ago...The lady with the  long white dress and the parasol? Would that be how ladies in Worthington Ohio c. 1849 would dress?

Worthington Memorial Day 2009

Worthingtons Walnut Grove CemeteryThere's the traditional Worthington Memorial Day Parade on Monday of course.  The route is west from Dublin Granville Road at Morning Street to High Street and south to the Walnut Grove Cemetery.

The Worthington Memorial Day parade starts at 10:00 A.M.The Worthington Memorial Day Parade is sponsored by the American Legion Leasure - Blackston Post 239 Worthington Ohio.

The grand marshalls for the 2009 Worthington Memorial Day Parade are twin brothers who grew up in on a farm north of Worthington and served in World War II, Don and Ron Dill, according to an article about the 2009 Worthington Memorial  Day Parade in the Worthington edition of This Week Community Newspaper.

My slideshow of the 2007 Worthington Memorial Day Parade

I missed the 2008 Worthington Memorial Day Parade. For years we were  in the parade... HER Realtors® Worthington Office now known as Real Living HER Worthington would walk in the parade, throw candy (lotsa candy) and we had the HER Realtors® Caliope in the parade... sometimes Herley the Bear the company mascot would be in the parade.

After the parade Monday there is a ceremony  on the mound in the Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Sunday graves of veterans will be decorated at two local cemeteries by members of the American Legion.

Monday morning at 6 AM there is a service on the Village Green where the flag is lowered to half staff and a canon is fired.  According to the This Week Community News article written by Candy Brooks: " The ceremony is repeated at St. John, Flint, Resurrection, and Kingwood cemeteries, the Worthington fire station, the Sharon Township Memorial building and the Post 239 home at 700 Morning St."

Worthington how GREEN it's going to be...

Green like lush green... Not like green like ecological.  The warm summer weather in the next eight to ten weeks will change the brown grass we have now into lush green grass... and the trees will sprout leaves... magically.

The 2007 Worthington Memorial Day Parade.  This slideshow is actually in Riverlea on High Street not in Worthington... or is the street still Worthington? Thinking about it we were on the front lawn in Riverlea and the parade was in Worthington?

Music alert. Turn the music down on the far right button on the bottom of the slideshow if necessary.

It is hard to believe how green it will be in a few months. Someone was looking at this video today... and I am recycling it.

The 2009 Worthington Memorial Day Parade will be on Memorial Day. I can't wait.

Worthington Ohio - Memorial Day 2007

I must admit I watched the parade from a front lawn of a house in the Village of Riverlea.  Riverlea is surrounded by Worthington and the Olentangy river.

Bands from both Worthington Kilbourne and Thomas Worthington as well as the OSU Alumni Band and a bagpipe band were in the parade this year. There were a number of Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops, a swim club, pom pom girls and baton twirlers from Central Ohio in the parade.
