Western Hills - the wild, wild west

Lone Prairie, Stagecoach, Gallop....  street names in Western Hills a Columbus neighborhood certainly reference the American West....

The City of Columbus neighborhood is in the Worthington School District and has a Powell mailing address.  Homes in the Western Hills subdivision are in the 43065 ZIP code.

Other street names in Western Hills include: Waco, Boulder, Durango, Laredo, Laramie, Eldorado, Yuma.  The main street from the south is Saddlerun and that goes west and just kinda turns into Plains Blvd.  Plains like in level....  the Great Plains in the US?  A flatter area of the country.

I ought to go drive Western Hills... the "Hills" part of Western Hills is perplexing... do you go slightly uphill as you go north? Western Hills is just west of Worthington Hills... well west of the railroad track which is west of Worthington Hills where there are some hills.   Western Hills is east of Smokey Row Road and north of Hard Road.

Worthington homes for sale - the Worthington City School District, would include the Western Hills neighborhood.

Olde Sawmill neighborhood

Olde Sawmill  Located in northwest Columbus, the neighborhood is in the Columbus city limits.

I believe the Olde Sawmill neighborhood is all in the  43016 ZIP code.  Well if you really want to know the truth I thought the neighborhood was in the 43235 ZIP code...

it's not...

Dublin OH 43016.

The Olde Sawmill neighborhood is north of Hard Road, South of Summit View Road, East of Sawmill Road and west of Smoky Row Road.

Part of the Olde Sawmill neighborhood is in the Dublin School District and part is in the Worthington School District.  Right now the homes for sale in the Olde Sawmill neighborhood half are Dublin, half are Worthington.  The school district boundaries ín Central Ohio existed before the city of Columbus annexed the area which is Olde Sawmill today.

Olde Sawmill has a  wide variety of home styles.  The BIA Parade of homes was in Olde Sawmill in the early 1980's, I believe.

Brookside Woods homes

Brookside Woods Homes Black & White Map

Brookside Woods homes are in the Worthington School District... unless of course they are in the Dublin School District.

The school districts were minding their own business... the land was sitting there... or maybe there was corn or soybeans planted there... I did not move to the area until 1990, I am assuming that northwest Columbus area was rural in the late 70's... early 1980's... Brookside Woods is not the only City of Columbus neighborhood along Snouffer Road that some homes are in Dublin schools, other homes are in the Worthington school district.

The school districts pre-existed the development of the area by the City of Columbus. The majority of Brookside Woods neighborhood is in the Worthington School District.

Brookside Woods runs from Snouffer Road (or Snouffer/ Bentree Blvd. ) on the north to Dublin Granville Road on the south.  The Brookside Wood neighborhoods is west of the Brookside Country Club's golf course.

The Franklin County tax records tell you what school district a property is in.  It's black and white.

Worthington Highlands neighborhood

Worthington Highland neighborhood sign The Worthington Highlands neighborhood is north of 270 so definitely the far north part of Franklin County.

Location, Location, Location

Worthington Highlands is in the City of Columbus and the neighborhood is in the Worthington School District.

Worthington Highlands has a Westerville ZIP code, 43081. Neighborhoods north of Park Road in the Worthington School district are in the 43081 ZIP code.    The homes just south of Park Road are in the Worthington ZIP code, 43085 (they are also in the City of Columbus and in the Worthington School District.)

The through streets in Worthington Highlands run north to south from Park Rd to Lazelle Road.  You can get into the east side of the neighborhood from Sancus Road.

History

The Worthington Highlands area was developed in the late 80's.  Most of the homes in the Worthington Highlands development were built by MI Homes, Ryland Homes or Virginia Homes I believe.  The earliest I can find is built in 1986 according to the auditor.  Latest homes?  I am guessing about 1992 or 1993 I sold one of the last few new homes built by a small builder... in the early 1990's.

To put this in perspective... the first concert at Polaris Ampitheater was in 1994?  Worthington Highlands was a neighborhood where you could hear the concerts I believe.... Worthington Highlands was the end of civilization... (kind of) yes there were some Lewis Center neighborhoods or even neighborhoolds with a Galena mailing address north of Worthington Highlands "out in the country."  There was not a Polaris interchange or a Polaris Parkway "just up the road a piece." It was country...  Wondering when the big Bank One bulding went in just north of Worthington Highlands?  Early 90's I believe.

Today

According to Google the neighborhood has a community website but I kept getting an error code.  Or I'd give you the link...

Worthington Highlands is very convenient to the Polaris area for shopping, restaurants, etc.  Other shopping nearby is Worthington Centre (corner of Worthington Galena and Park Rd.)  Or Worthington, Old Worthington or Worthington Square.  Or Crosswoods for more restaurants.

Brookside neighborhoods...

Brookside Area

The Brookside neighborhoods

Brookside Colony, Brookside Estates, Brookside Village, and Brookside Woods are all in the 43235 ZIP code.   The Brookside neighborhoods are east of Sawmill Rd.  The four Brookside neighborhoods are north of 161 (Dublin Granville Road) and inside 270.   Brookside Estates was built around Brookside Golf and Country Club... most of Brookside Estates is east of the golf course...  Brookside Estates West is west of the golf course, of course... Brookside Estates West really does NOT show on this map, the 1 on the map just north of 161 is in Brookside Estates West.  The number 11 is probably also in Brookside Estates West.

Brookside Village and Brookside Colony are north of Snouffer Rd.  Brookside Estates and Brookside Woods are south of Snouffer Rd.  Brookside Woods is west of the golf course.

Municipality (what city or township a house is in)

The grand-daddy (oldest) of the neighborhoods in the Brookside area is Brookside Estates... Brookside Estates is in Perry Township...or most of Brookside Estates is in Perry Township... a few homes  at least a few homes in Brookside Estates West are in the City of Columbus.

Brookside Colony, Brookside Village and Brookside Woods are all in the City of Columbus.

School District

Brookside Colony is in the Dublin School District.

Brookside Estates and Brookside Village are in the Worthington School District.

Part of the Brookside Woods area is in the Dublin School District and part of the Brookside Woods neighborhood is in the Worthington School District....

Sesame Street Worthington OH 43085

There is no Sesame Street in the Worthington OH 43085 ZIP code... or Columbus OH 43085 for that matter. I used Google Maps to be sure.

Wouldn't Worthington area neighborhoods be easier to sort out if they weren't all named Worthington?

Remember "One of these things is not like the other..." Just in case you don't remember here is song from Big Bird....

OK the big bowl of bird seed....is not the same as the other three.

You knew.

"You are so smart!"

One of these things is not like the other...

"One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?"

  1. Villages at Worthington
  2. Worthington Crossing
  3. Worthington Estates
  4. Worthington Highlands

One of these things is not like the other...

The difference? Worthington Estates is in the City of Worthington.  The others are not.

Villages at Worthington, Worthington Highlands and Worthington Crossing are in the City of Columbus.  Those three neighborhoods are in the Worthington School District.

Just to make it totally confusing Worthington Highlands and Worthington Crossing have Westerville mailing addresses!

Rule of thumb... most of the neighborhoods with the word Worthington in their name are not in the City of Worthington but are instead in the City of Columbus or Perry Township... or they could be in Sharon Township.

"W-O-R-T-H-I-N-G-T-O-N" will be abbreviated Wo throughout the rest of this post to keep Google etc. from thinking I am trying to do something funny....

City of Columbus

Lakes of Wo.

Ravines at Wo.

Villages at Wo.

Village at Wo. Crossing

Wo. Crossing

Wo. Forest Condominiums

Wo. Glen (not to be confused with Worthinglen but that's another story...)

Wo. Heights

Wo. Highlands

Wo. Mill

Wo. Park*

Wo. Run

Wo. Trace

Wo. Woods Condominiums

Perry and Sharon Township

Wo Hills...

Most of Worthington Hills is in Perry Township just a few streets on the eastern edge of the large neighborhood are in Sharon Township.  ... Well actually I guess on the south end there are homes which are in the city of Worthington, on the south end of the huge neighborhood.

City of Worthington

Wo Estates

Wo Park*

Residence of Wo.

and of course Old Worthington...

Can you think of other City of Worthington neighborhoods with the word Worthington in their name?

* There are 3 Worthington Park neighborhoods  There is a neighborhood called Wo Park off Worthington Galena Road, condos named Wo. Park off Sancus and a much older City of Worthington neighborhood with the same name.  I think the original neighborhood should have been able to call dibs on the name and not shared it....
