Columbus - Scarlett and Gray
The scarlet and gray may be more than the Ohio State University colors.
"Gray skies are going to clear up..."
If you live in Central Ohio now do gray days make you blue?
In a ranking of the top 40 US Metro areas Columbus ranked 31st.... (higher number is better..)
About Columbus from Forbes.com
"Columbus' most stressful factor is its low number of sunny and partly sunny days--only 175 in 2007. Columbus does have good air quality, for which it ranks 34th."
Stewart Penn in Hollywood CA started it - America's most stressful cities I read about the Forbes.com feature via Steve Shatsky's Dallas Texas. Steve lived in Columbus in the 80's? He worked out in Marysville for Honda? Now a real estate agent in Dallas, Steve wrote "Living in Dallas our real estate makes life less stressful." Their low median price makes living in Dallas less stressful?
Columbus has a low median price... we have a low average price too...$167,039 in July according to the Columbus Board of REALTORS® MLS (multiple listing service.)
One the Forbes.com ranking Columbus is the 31st out of 40 cities when it comes to stressful. Again bigger the number the better... the less stressful. Higher number is better this is stress not golf.
Relocating to Columbus? Yes we have less sunny days than many cities... but we don't get as much snow as Cleveland, Minneapolis, Chicago, Buffalo... We aren't as hot as Phoenix, Jacksonville, Miami.
Columbus has good air quality... in comparison to many American cities.
The photo above is of a very, very, very gray day in Columbus in August 2009. The day at the Ohio State Fair in Columbus was in the 80's with a pleasant breeze... It did no
t rain... but there was no sunshine.
Do the math... no Ohio is NOT the sunshine state, there is sunny or partly sunny about 48% of the time... Not sure how the percentages work out on the cloudy vs. partly cloudy days but that gray sky thing can be a great conversation filler...
"Columbus Ohio huh? Gray skies?"
"Yes. Sometimes..."
Today? 74° and mostly cloudy in Columbus Ohio 43085.
What else did Forbes look at to rate the stress of cities?
Jobs - Unemployment
Median home price
Population density
Sunny days... drat
and air quality...
Forbes said of Americas largest cities referring to the whole:
"Sinking property values, high unemployment and prices, and poor environments add to the pressure felt by residents in these metros."
and they summed up the stress of life in Columbus Ohio as "Columbus' most stressful factor is its low number of sunny and partly sunny days--only 175 in 2007."
Not from Columbus - Is your city on the Forbes.com ranking? How does your city rate?
Color Columbus - Scarlett and Gray
Saturday, September 5th, 2009 Navy is in Columbus to play the Ohio State Buckeyes...
Countdown to OSU vs. Navy Game... fall is actually a very pretty season in Central Ohio. No the leaves will not have changed for the first game of the season but we have the pretty leaves and blue skies to look forward to. Somedays anyways... Gray skies are going to clear up...
