Old Worthington Ghosts: Who you gonna call?

...Old Worthington ghosts?  Who you gonna call?

Actually I did not call.  I received a call.  A "paranormal investigator" called me last night about the building that was Fine Lines (a stationery store) on High Street in Old Worthington. Why me?  Because I shared the "story"  in 2009 and 2010  about a ghost rapping on the alley door of the store at 657 High St. Worthington, Ohio.

657 High St. Worthington Ohio 43085

The video was made by the Worthington Library....

2009  Worthington Ghost Story: The tale of Rap! Rap! Rap!

2010 Did Worthington's ghost "Irwin" run a business out of town?

The "paranormal investigator"  called after 10:00 PM on a Saturday night, so I did not pick up the call from an unknown local number.  In his voice mail and in our conversation he referred to the High Street store building as "abandoned."

On the phone Sunday I was able to tell him the Old Worthington building was not vacant.  "Abandoned?" Was it ever an abandoned building?  The Old Worthington store was vacant...  Vacant happens.  657 High Street, Worthington was not vacant in the story.    The employees of the stationary store where stationary, cards, pens wrapping paper, etc.  were sold had an encounter with the ghost, "Irwin."

Before calling the paranormal investigator back today, I looked up the phone number for the business now in the building at 657 High Street in Worthington. The "paranormal investigator" did not seem interested in the phone number for the current business. I did not give the "paranormal investigator" the phone number to Blue Frost Cupcake.

Old Worthington ghost stories

I did not tell the "paranormal investigator" about the ghost stories about other businesses on High Street in Old Worthington, some made up just for fun...

I did tell him I understood the story of Fine Lines being haunted was a joke.  Rap!  Rap! Rap!   It's a joke right?

Worthington Architectural Review District

The Worthington, Ohio Architectural Review District

Old Worthington home with hearing signAreas of the City of Worthington are subject to the Architectural Review Board... important parts of Worthington, Old Worthington of course, but also High Street.  Dublin Granville Rd... and more.

Here's a map on Worthington.org

Worthington Architectural Review District

The Worthington.org site is where you will find the City of Worthington Architectrual  Review Board Certificate of Appropriateness Application as well as other permits.

Worthington Architectural Review Board

The architectural review board is the five member Worthington planning commission plus two people "one of whom Worthington Municipal Buildingmust be a resident freeholder of the Architectural Review District" according to the rules.

An agent in my office who has been on the Architectural Review Board for years was present when I went to lend moral support to  clients who were summoned to talk to the Worthington Architectural Review Board about changes they had made to their Old Worthington home without asking permission first. Someday I may write about that night, or maybe not.

Ask first.

The board that reviews changes to properties in the Worthington Architectural Review District meet on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Worthington Municipal Building at 6550 N. High St. I believe both the Planning Commission and the Architectural Review Board take the month of August off.

Worthington set example in fight against terror

Worthington school district setting example in fight against terror

Kilbourne Middle School - Worthington Ohio

Kilbourne Middle School - Worthington OhioChannel 10 News had the story last night...  Central Ohio School Setting Example in Fight Against Terror  and that central Ohio school district is the Worthington City School District. Channel 10 News has an article and video in the link that tell the story of how Worthington schools worked with the Department of Homeland Security to become the leaders in preparation for a terrorist act.

" The U.S. Department of Homeland Security calls having improvised explosive devices or bombs the No. 1 terrorist act.  In the past, schools were less prepared for handling those types of events."

According to the Channel 10 News article and video the work done by Worthington Schools along with the Department of Homeland Security will serve to guide other Ohio communities in making their school buildings safer for children.

Worthington Schools

The Worthington City School District in northern Franklin County serves the City of Worthington, the Village of Riverlea and a portion of the City of Columbus as well as homes in unincorporated areas (townships.)  The school district boundaries were in place before much of northern Franklin County was developed or annexed into cities.   Worthington was established in 1803.

It looks as if the school pictured in the Channel 10 News video is Kilbourne Middle School.  The photos here are of Kilbourne Middle School, on E. Dublin Granville Rd. last November.  This Worthington middle school was the high school in Worthington before the school on W. Dublin Granville Road was built.  The school on W. Dublin Granville Road is now named Thomas Worthington High School.  The second high school in the Worthington school distirict is Thomas Kilbourne High School.  The school disctrict is served by a third high school, the Linworth Alternative Program as well. Kilbourne Middle School is one of four middle schools in the Worthington.  The other middle  schools in the Worthington City School District are Worthingway, McCord and the Phoenix School.

The Real Living HER Open House List on Super Bowl Sunday in 2012

The Real Living HER Open House List for February 5, 2012 is not as dinky as I thought it would be... since  Sunday February 5, 2012  is Super Bowl Sunday after all.  The game does not start until 6:30 ... but people need to get ready for Super Bowl parties, or start parties early?

Are many people in Central Ohio that into the game? The New England Patriots vs. New York Giants?  Or are we just watching for the commercials?

Back to the Real Living HER Open House List... there are 23 homes on the list now, Saturday morning on the Real Living HER Open house list.

"23 of 23 properties displayed"  Displayed on a map.  If a map view does not work for you use the list view.... or the gallery view.

Worthington's February First Friday

Blue Frost Cupcake High St. Worthington Ohio

Worthington's February First Friday is tonight

There is a theme for February... chocolate and wine!  It's beginning to look a lot like Valentine's Day.

Worthington spots to sip some fine wine include House Wine, La Chatelaine, Rivage Atlantique and Worthington Inn.

Emlolly Candy High St. Worthington OH*Places to find a fix of chocolate include Blue Frost Cupcake, Graeter's Ice Cream and Emlolly Candy... if they are open for First Friday in February 2012.

Worthington restaurants may have extra special chocolate desserts on their menu too.  Worthington restaurants include P.K O'Ryan and Old Bag of Nails too.

First Friday in Worthington is a chance to "shop, eat and play" in downtown Worthington (High Street and New England Avenue) in the evening.  The Old Worthington shopping area (or Olde Worthington) is a small, charming, walkable area south of the Worthington Village Green.

*Not all Worthington shops, including those mentioned here may be open, Friday, February 3, 2012 from 6:00 to 9:00.  You'd think any that had any tie into chocolate, wine or Valentine's Day would be open, wouldn't you? Few shops were open for First Friday in January, but you can count on the Worthington restauarants to stay open....
